Renegades have emerged victorious from DreamHack Masters Spring - Oceania after defeating AVANT 3-2 in the grand finals.
Christopher "dexter" Nong and company entered the best-of-five grand final series of DreamHack Masters Spring - Oceania with a one-map advantage due to their undefeated run through the upper bracket, but a victory did not come easy as it took all four maps for Renegades to claim a win over AVANT.
Dust2, AVANT's map pick, was where the series commenced, with the two sides battling back and forth in the opening moments of the match. A one round lead at the break for Renegades did not last last long as a pistol win helped AVANT take three in a row, putting them ahead 10-8 before dexter's side was able to respond. Renegades briefly regained control by winning four rounds in a row, but AVANT was hot on their heels as Mike "ap0c" Aliferis and Chris "ofnu" Hanley combined to help their side over the line, closing out the map 16-13.
One-sided battles on Nuke and Mirage were the next to unfold, with AVANT battering Renegades on the CT side of the former map for a 13-2 lead before eventually taking the win 16-9. With only their default map win in hand and facing a series loss, Renegades came to life on Mirage, with Simon "Sico" Williams and Liam "malta" Schembri taking the helm in a 16-10 victory to force an Inferno decider.
The final map seemed set to be a brawl as the teams grappled for control, AVANT starting and ending the first half strong but Renegades putting up a spree in the middle to narrowly lead 8-7 heading into the side swap. The situation took a grim turn for AVANT once Renegades were heading up the CT side however, with Joshua "INS" Potter and malta dominating to help their team quickly attain match point at 15-8. Three in a row allowed AVANT to briefly stall their execution, but a comeback was not to be as Renegades closed out the map 16-11 to take the series.
